The Last Dance is a 10-part documentary following Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bull's final championship season.
In the opening scene, they show an interview with a young Michael Jordan. He was asked, “Do you have any sense of destiny? Why is all this meant for you, and what’s down the road?”
Jordan said. “I just want the franchise to be respected as a team like the Lakers, or the Philadelphia 76ers, or the Boston Celtics. Hopefully, I, this team, and this whole organization can build a program like that.”
A few minutes later, his former head coach, Phil Jackson, at the end of their historic run and after building one of the most respected teams and organizations, said, “We created an image that people wanted to be a part of. I think that’s all you can hope for.”
What kind of team do you want to lead? What do you want your people to say about you and the way you lead?
Seconds later, the documentary jumped to a clip where sharp-shooting guard and future NBA championship coach, Steve Kerr, was asked, “What’s unique about this particular dynasty?”
After stumbling through a couple of thoughts, he laughed and said, “We have Michael Jordan.”
Michael Jordan was a once-in-a-lifetime talent, personality, and force, but we all have something that makes us and our team and culture unique.
